Hey friends, I refer you back to the title. I hold the axiomatic belief that, by virtue of our shared humanity and personhood, we are entitled to a set of fundamental rights. Chief among them is the right to not be killed by another person—the right to life. The protests we are seeing right now are the natural conclusion of a community who has repeatedly and unjustifiably had this sacred right violated. This is not a debate over anecdotes—this is not the result of a handful of unrelated killings happening in a vacuum. There is a deep, systemic problem in my country (our country, for my American watchers), one that History demands be corrected. And Right now, history is leaning towards justice. The American public (I say again, the American public, for God's sake!) is showing widespread support for the Black Lives Matter protests. Even a third of our Republicans are on-board, if current polls are correct. That is insane to me. More than that, I believe this is reason for hope. A
